Our tips on clothing and equipment to bring for a trail running tour.
The list below is divided into two sections: one dedicated to the items needed for sleeping and various replacements, and the other for running gear.
It is not necessary to have everything listed; the intention is to provide a reminder from which each person can choose what they find useful and suitable for their needs.
General Items
- 35-40 liter trekking backpack with rain cover
- Trekking shoes (for use in the evening)
- Underwear for 3 days of trail running
- Identity document
- Headlamp
- Compact down jacket
- Waterproof shell
For Running
- Running backpack 10-15 liters
- Trail running shoes
- Trail socks (3-day replacement)
- Trail running shorts (3-day replacement)
- Breathable tank tops/T-shirts (3-day replacement)
- Sleeveless vest
- Breathable long-sleeve shirt
- Arm warmers
- Supplements/gel/bars/dried fruit for 3 trail runs
- Trail rain jacket
- Water bottles/soft flasks/camelback (at least 1 liter)
- Trail running poles
- Buff
- Sun hat
- Sunscreen
- Sunglasses
- First aid kit (gauze, band-aids, tape, emergency blanket) - mandatory
Extra or variations for multi-day experiences
- Comfortable socks for the evening
- Comfortable T-shirt for the evening
- Comfortable hoodie/fleece for the evening
- Waterproof bags for clothes
- Comfortable long pants for the evening
- Towel (preferably microfiber)
- Toothpaste/toothbrush/body wash
Plus miscellaneous items such as:
- Charger for phone and/or camera
- A good book (if you have an ebook reader, you'll save weight)
- Compressible small backpack for use in the evening or for short trips near the hotel/mountain hut
For the overnight stays in mountain huts
- Sleeping bag liner (mandatory, usually available for purchase at the mountain hut)
- Earplugs/sleep mask
- Extra cash for payments at the mountain hut
