Clothing and Equipment for Cycling, MTB & e-bike Tours

Our tips on clothing and equipment to bring for a bike/MTB tour.

The following list is the result of years of experience from our staff in practicing the activities we offer. It's a list of clothing, equipment, and materials required to participate in our tours, that we hope will help you pack your bag and make any necessary purchases before departure.
We also recommend doing a general check-up of your bike before each departure.

Technical clothing for a bike or MTB tour

  • 14-16 liter backpack (with rain cover)
  • Windproof jacket, preferably waterproof (e.g., Gore-Tex, etc.)
  • Spare technical shirt
  • Long-sleeve shirt, warm layer for sudden temperature changes
  • Knee pads (recommended) and long-finger gloves
  • Neck gaiter (buff type)
  • Sunglasses

Maintenance

  • 14-16 liter backpack (with rain cover)
  • Bike shoes (if you have compatible pedals) or sneakers
  • Inner tube and "vermicelli" kit (for tubeless repairs)
  • Tire levers
  • Chain link tool
  • Rear derailleur hanger
  • Good quality mini pump
  • Multitool (with chain splitter)
  • One or two pairs of brake pads
  • Zip ties
  • Duct tape (or electrical tape)

Nutrition and hydration

  • Energy bars/dried fruit
  • Energy gels
  • 0.75/1L water bottle

Miscellaneous

  • Identity document
  • Cash for extras at mountain huts
  • Phone (with potential roaming charges for Switzerland or non-European countries), with emergency numbers
  • Phone charger
  • Tissue paper or wet wipes
  • Essential first aid kit and emergency blanket
  • Topographic map (optional)
  • White front light and red rear light (optional, useful for transfer sections on busy roads, tunnels, etc.)

For multi-day excursions

  • 35-40 liter backpack (with rain cover)
  • Extra breathable T-shirts
  • Extra underwear
  • Extra fleece (if necessary)
  • Extra socks (warm and/or light)
  • Extra snacks
  • Comfortable long pants for the evening
  • Cotton T-shirt for the evening
  • Towel (recommended microfiber)
  • Toothpaste and toothbrush
  • Sleeping bag liner (mandatory for overnight stays in mountain huts, usually available on-site)
  • Earplugs/eye mask for sleeping
